Umfassend kostspielig

Kein Jahr vergeht, in dem nicht mit speziellen Produktveröffentlichungen an ein Jubiläum des epochalen Musikfestivals erinnert wird, das zwischen dem 15. und 18. August 1969 auf den Feldern vor dem Städtchen Bethel im US-Bundesstaat New York Kulturgeschichte schrieb.


Zum 50. Jahrestag von Woodstock ist dies kaum anders: Gleich mehrere CD-Boxen unternehmen den Versuch, das Festivalprogramm in einer inhaltlichen Breite abzubilden, wie dies bislang noch nie der Fall war — und bringen neben den wohl bekanntesten Shows von Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker und Ten Years After auch die Woodstock-Veteranen zurück ins Gedächtnis, deren Auftritte nicht mit Auszügen auf dem Film-Soundtrack von 1970 wenigstens angerissen wurden.

The Who, Mountain und Grateful Dead etwa, aber auch Creedence Clearwater Revival, Johnny Winter, The Keef Hartley Band, Blood, Sweat & Tears und The Butterfield Blues Band, deren Konzerte zumindest zum Teil auch separat oder als Bonus-Beipack offizieller Alben zu finden sind — in wechselhafter Qualität.
Woodstock 50 — Back To The Garden soll ab dem 28. Juni in vier Varianten zu bekommen sein:

Imposantere 162 Stücke bringt die Woodstock 50 — Back To The Garden: The Anniversary Experience auf 10 CDs zusammen — die Edition ist für 150 Dollar bei www.rhino.com/woodstock50 vorbestellbar und lässt erahnen, dass die edelste der konzipierten Boxen einiges kosten wird: Für schlappe 800 Dollar wird Woodstock 50 — Back To The Garden: The Definite Anniversary Archive (38 CDs) zu bekommen sein.

Diese Ausführung ist auf 1969 individuell nummerierte Exemplare limitiert und erscheint in einer mit Segeltuch ausgelegten Sperrholzkiste. Zum Set gehört zudem der Festival-Film auf Blu-ray, eine Replik des Originalprogramms, ein Gitarrengurt, zwei Poster, der Reprint eines Tagebuchs, das angeblich von einem anonymen Besucher während des Festivals geschrieben wurde, zwei Foto-Drucke und Essays m renommierter Musikautoren. Ebenfalls enthalten ist ein gebundenes Exemplar von Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music, einem Buch über das Event von Michael Lang, einer der Mitorganisatoren des Festivals.
